The embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt hosted the Armed Forces Day reception in Serena Hotel Islamabad to mark the 50th anniversary of the victory of October 6, 1973.
This day honors the martyrs and celebrates the victory. It was the then President Anwar Sadat who launched a surprise attack to reclaim the territory. The war ended with a cease-fire mediated by the United States and eventually this led to a peace treaty in 1979 between Israel and Egypt.
Minister Defence General (retired) Anwar Ali Haider was the chief guest on the occasion.
H.E. Ambassador Dr. Tarek Dahroug, H.E. Mr. Sameh Ahmed El Ghamrawi, Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Mohamed Saad, Egyptian Defense Attaché, Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Palestine, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Jordon, Defence Attaches of Middle East, Africa, South Asia, RCCI President Mr. Saqib Rafiq , Group Leader RCCI Mr. Sohail Altaf, Senior Vice President Muhammad Hamza Sarosh, former presidents and distinguished RCCI members, and a large number of guests hailing from various segments of the society were also present on the occasion.
Mohamed Saad, Egyptian Defense Attaché in his welcome speech thanked the guests for honoring the Celebration Ceremony of the 50th anniversary of the glorious October victories. He said, the sacrifices and heroisms made by the heroes of the Egyptian armed forces to achieve this great victory will remain immortal in the conscience of every Egyptian and a witness to the solidity of the Egyptian people.
Minister Defence General (retired) Anwar Ali Haider in his speech Anwar Ali Haider termed the October 6, 1973 victory as a momentous day and paid huge tribute to the martyrs.
He also highlighted the deep rooted relations of more than seven decades, between Egypt and Pakistan. He thanked Egypt Government for supporting the cause of Kashmir and Palestine and expressed hope that the defence and trade ties between both countries will further strengthen in the coming days
